Jewel Case Dimension Questions

Q: How thick is a standard jewel case? How thick of a booklet can I place in a CD jewel case?

A: Standard jewel cases are 3/8" thick and can accommodate a booklet up to 1/16" thick. Remember that the literature tabs are stiff and can grab the booklet tightly. (Some say they grab the booklet too tightly.) So err on the side of caution and try to stay below this 1/16" limit.

Q: What are the dimensions of a standard jewel case?

A: 4-7/8" x 5-1/2" x 3/8"

Q: What are the dimensions of a standard jewel case insert?

A: I have seen some several variations on the size of insert cards, particularly the type you print yourself. Different manufacturers apply their own templates to maximize the number of inserts you can create from a single piece of standard paper and to work with templates that already exist for your favorite design programs. If you are getting your inserts printed by an offset or silkscreen printing company, I suggest you request 4-3/4" square for the top cover. For the back cover, use 5-3/8" by 4-5/8" (plus two ¼" spines).
