Why don't the measurements of your insert templates match the measurements of my DVD case?

The customer who posed this question was asking specifically about the template for the DVRCVR, which is our recommended insert for the DVR123-100 case. Although this information will be true for any of our disc cases and templates, I'll go ahead and use these items to illustrate this issue.

The template provided in the Helpful Downloads section of our Web site is for the DVRCVR insert -- not the case itself. Here's why the measurements are different.

The dimensions listed for our DVD cases are based on outside measurements. For the DVR123-100, that measurement is 22mm (or approx. 13/16 inches).

The measurement of the "spine text" area on the template is for the flat area between the insert's scored lines and where the insert wraps around the corners. On our sample box, the fold starts at the score but extends just bit past it. The measurement is about 15/16 inches, which is approximately the same size as the text area allocated in the DVRCVR template.

There are, of course, variances among individual cases, the different printers and computer software. But we checked the measurements listed above on a couple of different cases and our figures proved accurate.

Nonetheless, I recommend that you print your completed template on regular paper and line up the spine with your DVD. Then you can make adjustments that might be needed before your print your inserts.
