What is a "tamper evident seal"?

A tamper evident seal is an opening that allows you to determine if someone has opened the package. For example, Polyline carries adhesive-backed disc sleeves with tamper evident seals.

The opening to insert the disc is on the back of the sleeve. You insert the disc prior to adhering it to your folder, binder, etc.

Once the disc is adhered to a surface, the original opening is closed. Sure, you could probably get at the disc through the original opening but not without destroying the sleeve, the surface it's attached to, or both.

On the front of the sleeve is a closed opening. In this example the opening was perforated. If no one retrieves the disc, the package remains closed. But, if someone removes the disc for any reason, it cannot be closed again. So you can see at a glance whether someone has tampered with your disc.
